The following slides Show the different types of corrosion and show the corrosion mechanism. By understanding corrosion, you can better understand how coatings can help prevent corrosion. Another area of concern is biofouling. Most sytems that exist in a liquid environment are subject to biofouling due to both aerobic and anerobic types of bacteria. These slides demonstrate how biofilms are formed and how they can effect corrosion. We are now carrying test kits to find the different types of bacteria. The most well know are the Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB) which is anerobic. There are also other acid producing bacteria, some which are aerobic and some are anerobic.

In the below slide, it shows the how the biofilm prevents dissolved oxygen from getting below the mass and forming an ideal environment for anerobic bacteria, especially Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB)
